Heavy rainfall and landslides have caused dramatic damage in Nepal and devastated entire villages. The Kavre district and the village of Roshi in the Kathmandu Valley, which is close to our partner organisation LEO Banepa, have been particularly badly affected. Together with LEO, we are currently working on an emergency plan to help the local people quickly and easily. The priority is to support those affected with essential goods such as food, clothing and medical care.

Kathmandu and surrounding area particularly affected

In addition to the rural regions, the capital Kathmandu and its surroundings were also hit particularly hard. The Bagmati River and its numerous tributaries burst their banks, causing widespread flooding. Houses were flooded, vehicles washed away and in many places the infrastructure remains severely damaged.

A tragic event occurred south of Kathmandu, where a landslide buried three vehicles. At least 35 people lost their lives. According to Nepalese authorities, more than half of the 104 fatalities in the storm have so far been reported in the capital and neighbouring districts.

More rainfall expected

Although the weather has already improved in some parts of the country, the authorities are warning of further rainfall in the coming days. Nepal is frequently exposed to natural disasters due to its geographical location, characterised by mountains and rivers. The monsoon season, which usually lasts from June to September, regularly brings heavy rainfall, which repeatedly leads to flooding and landslides.

How you can help

In view of the devastating situation on the ground, we are reliant on any support. Together with our partner organisation LEO Banepa, we are coordinating the distribution of food, clothing and medical aid. Every donation can help to alleviate the suffering of the people affected and support the reconstruction process.
